Mikalojus Konstantinas iurlionis (18751911) is one of the most prominent Lithuanian artists, who left a lasting legacy in Lithuanian culture and the history of modern European art. A painter, composer, and writer, he was a truly versatile creator whose life lasted only 35 years, yet whose artistic output is vast. iurlionis worked at the crossroads of symbolism and modernism and is regarded internationally as one of the pioneers of early abstract art. He was the first Lithuanian artist to unite music and painting into a single artistic language. His works are often described as painted music. Deeply rooted in Lithuanian culture and the mystical beauty of nature, his art embodies the spirit of the nation.
